By age 6, a child needs closer to 1700 kcalories daily. Fluctuating appetites are common and natural as long as when they do eat it is nutrient -dense kcalories. Iron is the most deficient nutrient in American children, affecting energy, behavior, mood, and attention span. It is not important that they eat it all, but what they do eat be important.
